Monday Dress

Every girl needs a Monday dress. Okay, I know it's not Monday, it's kind of a metaphor for those days when you just need to throw something on and go. For me, Mondays usually go one of two ways. One kind of Monday starts bright and early. After a good long weekend of rest and relaxation, I am ready to go. It's a Monday that starts with getting up before my last alarm, an inventive and exciting breakfast, and a creative outfit. A great way to start the week. More often than not, however, is the other kind of Monday. The roll out of bed  twenty minutes later than I should, shove some makeup on, eat the quickest breakfast I can and throw on my Monday dress. This dress is for all those mornings when I don't have the energy to think of a creative work outfit. And I'm not going to lie, there have been times when I've worn it multiple times in the same week. Dress, blazer, tights, heels- out the door.

heels- Marks and Spencer
necklace- Forever 21
I first saw this dress on the gorgeous Olivia of What Olivia Did way back in October and it was the first dress I bought for work. I wore it for my third and final interview for my job! Okay, I usually remember to pull it down so it doesn't wrinkle like this, but I love the floral and lace print and the pencil style. I really need to get more dresses in this shape for easy Monday mornings!
Have a great week!

Week in Photos

Two weeks' worth again!

1. Sunday night TV with my Dad
We're really into Friday Night Dinner at the moment (thanks Jenny for introducing it to me!), does anyone else think it's great?
2. Cauliflower rice
Cauliflower rice is awesome. If you haven't tried it, you really need to. We also had cauliflower mash last week which is yummy.
3. Two ingredient pancakes
One mashed banana, one egg. There are loads of recipes on the internet if you want to give them a try. I've not quite got these quite right, but they're a good breakfast with berries and a little bit of maple syrup.
4. Quorn meatballs with homemade tomato sauce and courgette spaghetti
Okay, one more veggie substitute! I can't remember where I found the courgette spaghetti recipe, but it was just cut up courgette, cooked in boiling water for a minute and then blanched in cold water. Lovely.
5. Dad's fruit salad
My dad has been making a lot of fruit salad lately, therefore I have been eating a lot of fruit salad lately.
6. Duluth weather
A few days ago I was really cold and thought, wow, I wonder how cold it is in Duluth. Minus twenty six (celcius) was how cold. Seriously, how did I used to cope? It's minus one here and I'm cold!
7. Furry hat to work
8. Free lunch at work!
My boss bought us lunch last Friday! Goat's cheese and veg pizza for lunch is always good!
9. Banana, berry, greek yoghurt and almond milk smoothie
I was given some free almond milk at Piccadilly the other day and I am completely hooked! So good in a smoothie after a workout!
10. Saturday morning frittata
I love making breakfast for my Mum and I on a Saturday morning. Frittata is usually our favourite.
11. Batman Trilogy Weekend!
Yeah so last Saturday two of my best friends came over and we watched all three Batman movies. I'd never seen Batman Begins before so I enjoyed how it set up the other two films. After great deliberation we decided that The Dark Knight Rises is definitely the best!
12. My new poaching pods came!
I blame Amy for posting these on her blog and making me need them! I love poached eggs but I suck at making them.
13. First go with my poaching pods!
Successful breakfast!
14. Laid back Sunday outfit
15. Meal planning on a Sunday
16. European cool or mismatched mess?
My Sunday outfit was a little all over the place. Red jeans, purple panda socks, black converse, leopard coat, oh and my furry hat
17. Amaziiiiing shortbread
Seriously, this was amazing. I'll try to post the recipe up.
18. Veggie crumble
So so good for Sunday dinner.
19. Favourite work outfit
I need to get this photographed this week
20. MY NEW TOASTIE MAKER
For some reason lately I've been really excited by the prospect of toasties. We christened it yesterday, and consequently made a massive mess, of course.
21. Leopard for work.
22. My "I have nothing to wear" dress
23. 900 twitter followers!
24. Another post-workout smoothie
This time mango, berry, yoghurt and almond milk.
25-26. Photos in the Independent
Okay you totally can't see my photo credit, but I had some photos published in the Independent yesterday! My friend Kayleigh's housemate Chloe works for them and asked me if they could use some of my food photos for an article on Foodstagrams so I sent her some pictures! Finally taking photos of my food has paid off!
27. What the heck do you wear to a christening?
I had a christening to go to today which was a lot of fun but I had no idea what I wear! I went for a floral dress, blazer and pink mary janes.

Miami Vice

Yep, more workwear! I apologise if you're getting sick of it, but it's only going to get worse! The truth is, I'm in work five days a week and I spend my weekends in jeans and jumpers, so unless I take photos of my work outfits I have nothing to take photos of! Plus, because I'm in work every day there isn't really much point in investing in new clothes unless I can wear them for work. This also means at the moment you're stuck with slightly-rubbishy-before- work photos. I take photos in the conservatory to try to get as much natural light as possible (it's also the only room with a plain white wall!) but when you're trying to take photos at 8am in January natural light is a little hard to come by! Anyway, I'm actually quite enjoying photographing my work outfits. It's so easy to wear boring outfits to work or to not get excited about workwear, but like I said, if I don't get excited about what I wear to work every day I only have the weekends to dress up and that's not fun! It's quite difficult to come up with interesting outfits to wear to work every day (and believe me, I don't wear interesting outfits every day!) so I'm going to try to post more workwear to keep me creative. When I first started my grown up job I had no idea what to wear but I'm picking it up as I go, so I hope my workwear posts are useful to people who are just about to start in the working world and need inspiration!
blazer- c/o Matalan
trousers- New Look
shirt- Modiste Boutique
heels- Marks and Spencers
Now if you've been reading my blog for a while you'll know that I am a bit of a blazer addict. Blazers were one thing I didn't need to buy for my working wardrobe. On last count I had red, mustard, navy, black, nude, beige, tweed, pink, grey, tartan, panda print, floral, and my latest, this white one from Matalan. At first it felt a bit Miami Vice but once I paired it with my new favourite skinny trousers from New Look (they were £10. £10!) and my black shirt I was over the moon with the result. It's a slightly longer, more relaxed fit which is a little different from my usual style but I really love it and think it will be great for the weekend too. Matalan have a great selection of women's blazers- how awesome is that yellow one?!
Well I'm having a crazy busy week at work so I'm gonna have a relaxing evening watching TV and doing Jillian Michaels (Ripped in 30 Level 2, Day 5!)
Have a lovely evening!

Tartan Lovin'

Remember I said I like tartan? It seems I really, really like tartan. Every winter, the tartan comes out in the form of shirts, scarves, dresses, skirts and blazers and I absolutely love it. Blame Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen but I love the way tartan has a little hint of punk and can make even the simplest of outfits just a little more edgy. Here are all the ways I have worn tartan on my blog...

Which outfit is your favourite? How do you like to wear tartan?

More Things I Wear For Work

dress- Topshop
blazer- ebay
heels- Marks and Spencers
This dress is one of my favourites for work. It was a bargain from Topshop and even though it's just a simple black jersey dress, it's just smart enough with black tights, heels and a blazer to wear for work. This is one of my more casual work outfits, and I try to avoid wearing this dress multiple times a week (I also have it in maroon) because it's so casual. It's not something I'll wear for a meeting, but something a bit more chilled for a day in the office when I can't think of anything more creative in the morning to put on!
The blazer is pretty self explanatory- I love tartan. I was looking everywhere for a cute red blazer and I found this one from ebay- perfect!
I apologise for the distinct lack of pictures. I took these ages ago and it was only when I went to edit them that I realised that nearly all of them were rubbish! Taking photos before work is not always the best idea!

Pink Lips and Studded Boots

Wheee it's Friday! It's been a busy week this week but I'm happy to be getting back into my work routine. I'm back to Jillian Michaels (I just started Ripped in 30!) and early nights, which makes me happy. I also squeezed in a yummy dinner with Steph on Wednesday and started my photography course on Monday! I can't start the intermediate class until April so I'm taking the beginner class at the moment. I'm completely self taught (except or the Idiot's Guide to the Canon D550) so I'm sure there will be things I will learn from the beginner class, but at the moment it's just going over the basics which I already know. The pictures I've seen from people who took the class last year are really good though so I'm excited to see what I'm going to learn. Other exciting news of the week is that I've booked a trip to Amsterdam for my birthday! My friend Ellen is a teacher so she can only have time off during the school holidays so we're going away for Easter weekend (my birthday is Easter Saturday this year) . We're staying at the City Hub which looks awesome and only £20 a night! Neither of us have even been to Amsterdam before so recommendations are appreciated (we're definitely going to the Anne Frank house!).

These photos are from New Year's Day, which gives you an idea of how behind I am with blogging. I have a list of half a dozen blog posts in my phone that I just haven't had time to get up! At the moment I am all kinds of obsessed with these boots! My friend Kayleigh was wearing a pair just like them when I last saw her and I fell in love with them. I love them with a printed dress, leather jacket and black tights. I'm also following on with my resolution of wearing more lipstick! I love this colour (it's Impassioned by MAC) and I actually got my hair right for these pictures, which makes a change. These photos has made me realise I do need to book a cut and colour though! One thing I love about having brown hair is that it doesn't need redoing as often as my blonde hair did, but I have been a bit lazy and not had my colour done since I came home from America (at the beginning of October!).

Well Jillian is calling! Have a lovely evening!

Paris.
Pretty, but incredibly overpriced macarons (no, we didn't buy any).
Endless photos of the Eiffel Tower.
Thick, sweet hot chocolate and French Onion soup.
The Champs de Elysee at night (from the top of the Arc De Triomphe)
Pain au chocolat and cafe au lait for breakfast every day.
Two views from the Eiffel Tower. Worth the three hour queue.
And the Eiffel Tower at night.
The Louvre, which now comes with a Nintendo 3DS as an audio guide (it's awesome).
Obligatory pictures of the Venus De Milo and of course, the Mona Lisa.
Padlocks on the bridge (couldn't find yours, Rosie!).
Shakespeare and Company for a mooch, every time. Even though I never buy anything.
Notre Dame.
The Big Wheel (worth the 30 Euros).
Last day photos with the Eiffel Tower.
Paris.
