...because i love style surveys!!

♥ I skimp when buying: Everything. Well okay, not everything. But I’d rather have lots of cheap clothes than one item. I like New Look shoes, in fact I like New Look in general. But I do like decent quality shoes, but there’s not much I’d snub buying from Primark.

♥ I splurge when buying: Dresses and my amazing jacket collection. Ooh and my new playsuit :]]]

♥ I always break this fashion rule: I don’t believe in a lot of fashion rules. I plan on doing a post on this. Black can be worn with blue, peep toes and tights are okay (my housemate Steph totally disagrees!!) but I’m not a fan of black with blue denim.

♥ I never break this fashion rule: Sweatpants outside of my dance class and I never wear my pajamas outside of my house..

♥ Must have item for Spring 2010: Lots and lots of nudes, lightweight jackets and cardigans, amazing shoes and fake tan.

♥ Favorite store: TopShop, New Look, Miss Selfridge, River Island, H&M and apparently Primark!!

♥ Style icon: I’m also going to do a post on this!! Fearne Cotton, Kate Moss, Zoey Deschanel, Cheryl Cole, Miley Cyrus (no, seriously), people I see on the street, style bloggers….

♥ Most cherished item: Clothes wise? My shoes, jackets, coats and dresses.

♥ Favorite item of clothing: Oh wow. I don’t think I could ever decide. I love my high waisted shorts, all my dress, my amazing skirts… nope, can’t decie!!

♥ Favorite stylish movie: Wow erm.. The Devil Wears Prada, (500) Days of Summer, The Notebook…

♥ Guilty pleasure: Dresses, skirts, shoes… haribo, in fact, all sweets, bright coloured things, Soap and Glory beauty products, Urban Decay makeup, sleeping…

♥ Describe your personal style: hmmm.. I think a few weeks ago I said it was “girly with an edge.” Something like that. I like anything sophisticated with a bit of an edge, lots of black, patterns and leather!!

♥ I feel best wearing: A really pulled together, classic outfit. At the moment, my new playsuit makes me feel amazing.

♥ Personal style quirk: Probably my hair. And the fact that my right wrist holds 3 Leeds weekend wristbands (2007, 2008, and 2009) and I refuse to cut them of…

♥ Most overrated item: Jeggings. Not a fan.

♥ Most underrated item: A simple striped top.

♥ Most stylish city: Hmmm, I feel I can’t say London as I am a Northern girl!! New York, it’s my dream.

♥ Never caught wearing: Sweatpants unless I have a dance class. Generally though, leggings as pants. Urgh.

♥ When I was in high school I wore: Tartan skirts, Vans and Knee socks.

♥ Shine your own shoes? Hahah, no.

♥ Favorite fashion magazine: Glamour. God I love it. I also read Look and More! nearly every week.

♥ Favorite other magazine: I always read my Mum’s YOU magazine.

♥ Skincare, perfume: I never pay much attention to my skincare products; whatever is cheapest in Boots!! Perfume is Ralph Lauren- Ralph for day, Love at First Glow by J.Lo for evening and Armani Diamonds for the rest of the time!!

♥ I always dress my best for: Everything. My friend once said to me “do you never have an off day?” Hmm, usually when I’m hung over or tired!! I do have the occasionally hoodie day!!

okay, so I did something a bit crazy.

last week, after a stressful few days, I decided to take out my frustration on something.

And that something was my hair.

I love my hair. I love it a lot. But I’ve had the same hair cut since I was 16 and I still love the colours, but I was getting bored of my kinda shapeless shoulder-length bob. So I decided to go for a chop. Big Style.

It is now long at the front and very, very short at the back. A few people asked me to do a blog post on it, so here we go!!

I also think I look a bit like a pirate today. What do you think?

And me looking decidedly piratey!! Yarrgh!!

Sorry these photos are rather candid, I just wanted to get photos of my hair up!!

I have a few outfit posts to put up from before I had my hair cut as well :]]]

Please leave me a comment to let me know what you think :]]]

PS: My new gayest-person-I've-ever-met hairdresser said he loves my style. That must be a compliment!!

Brand GNDF!!

Magazines are always telling us to ‘think like a brand’- take down all those facebook photos of you falling over in clubs, remain poised at all times, have a trademark style…

While I’m never going to take down photos of me having fun on a night out (though I do tend to pull a very strange open-mouth-thumb-up pose after a few drinks), I think the idea of a personal trademark is interesting.

CollegeFashion (my favourite favourite blog!!) has done a couple of posts now on this concept (both with Blair Waldorf’s infamous headbands as a starting point!!) and while I don’t think everyone should stick to the same way of dressing everyday, and I think that style and fashion is all about being creative, inspiration and experimenting, I think most style icons, whether we (or they) are consciously aware of it or not often have their own trademarks.

Victoria Beckham and her giant sunglasses

Cherly Cole and her high heels

Kate Moss and her ballet flats

So I started to think about my own trademarks- I say it plurally because I’m pretty sure I have a couple of elements to my style that are completely mine. I think having trademarks and knowing what they are is very useful. You know what you can put together and feel like yourself, and you know if something doesn’t feel very you. Saying that, I’m all for changing your style and mixing it up a bit, I particularly love this post at college fashion. I think my style has been constantly evolving for several years now. As I’ve mentioned before I went through a bit of a punky phase when I was about 15, 16 and I’ve never really lost a lot of that. I think that is a definite element of my style.

One of my trademarks is definitely my hair.

I’ve had blonde and pink hair in several ways since I was about 15, and now it’s sort of a messy blonde/pink/black/red mass, but I love it!! It can be quite limiting sometimes- I can never look especially formal, it’s a nightmare when I’m looking for a job and I’ve only recently bought a red dress because I was scared it would clash!! But I do love it, I’ve had it so long now it’s just a part of me. I’m always “the girl with the pink hair” and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

In fact pink in general. I am one of those very pink girls. I have a pink coat, a pink umbrella, pink gloves, a pink suitcase, pink ipod cover, pink headphones, pink GHDs…even my bed covers are pink!! My nails are nearly always pink and I just love the femininity (though it is stereotyped) of all things pink!! My name was recently in the University Newspaper and my friends got very excited that it was on a pink background!! I am definitely a very girly girl, but I have no problem with that!! I may be blonde and blue-eyed smothered in pink but I am no bimbo!!

Along with my pink hair I’ll never even leave the house without black eyeliner. I dunno, my face just looks weird without it!!

Clothes wise, I wear a lot of skirts and dresses so tights are definitely a firm trademark; especially bright coloured or patterned tights. I love wearing them with a plain black or grey dress or under my long black coat. Bright tights are fun and much more interesting than plain black, navy or tan.

More recently I’ve also been really into stripes, I think my inner Wednesday Addams is coming through!! I love a striped black and white top with something simple like black shorts or jeans, or layered under a dress. They’re just edgy without making the outfit too grungy.

I also really, really love bright colours; whether it’s my bright pink coat (which in itself is a bit of a trademark), bright tights, or a brightly coloured dress or skirt. I love to stand out and even when I do wear all black and try and wear something bright to stand out!! I’m a huge fan of pink, especially worn with navy (I wear this a lot on spring and summer), blue and yellow.

Wow I seem to have more than I thought, because I also love cardigans and jackets. Not just to keep warm, oh no!! I hate having a great outfit and then I realise I’m going to be cold and I have nothing to go with it (this is the same reason why I have so many pairs of shoes!!)I have the same cardigan in four different colours, as well as four black cardigans of varying lengths, two leather jackets, several blazers, and five coats!! I don’t really have a go-with-everything cardigan or jacket, I just have several for all occasions!!

And in general I really like wearing something girly with an edge. I nearly always wear pearls to give everything a sort of classiness, but the rest of my outfit is usually black or very bright usually involving ankle boots and my general style is quite edgy; lots of studs and leather. But I also love pretty nudes and tutu skirts, and my style is evolving into something that seems to bring together the two.

Check out CF’s post on this, and I also think the post over there on Creating a Wardrobe that’s Completely Yours is pretty inspiring!!

Let me know what you think :]]]

one month at GNDF!!

I’m very sorry for the lack of updates this week- I have literally been up to my eyeballs in my job, my uni work, life and, well going out and having fun!!

But I realised the other day that as it is now Febraury, GNDF has been going for over a month now, and I have to say I’m very proud of the response I have received. From one of two views a day, I now get 20-30 most days, and up to 100 on days when I post!! I want to thank every single person who has ever read this blog, it means one hell of a lot to me.

But on to the future!! I have lots and lots of idea for GNDF; weekly online treats, a look inside my wardrobe, celebrity fashion and inspiration, fashion news, lots of articles on lifestyle, beauty and, well fashion and tonnes of other things I can’t wait to write.

Okay here is my list of things I want to do to make my blog better:

  • update my least every two days,

  • I promise to do outfit photos every day (I’m still stuck trying to find somewhere in my house where I can easily take photos!!)

  • Process my photos straight away (by that I mean upload and photoshop) because I get lazy and never get round

  • Write everything down as soon as I get inspired

  • Make lots of posts for when I don’t feel so inspired

  • Find some good pictures to go with my posts

  • Branch out; I really want to write some more lifestyle type posts

  • Have regular features; I’m especially thinking how-to guides, online favourites, inspiration, discussion and debate, inside my wardrobe, my favourite bloggers… to name a few!!

So that is what I want to achieve with GNDF to make it the best it can possible be!!

Watch this space!!
