This Week I...

How do you guys feel about this being a weekly feature? I don't like to do posts without pictures but I  don't have 3G on my phone while I'm abroad so the only instagram pics I can post up are when I'm at home with wifi. It's difficult to post outfit posts when I work 5 days a week but I want to try new features so I can post as much as possible. I'd like to make this a weekly feature on a Sunday (obviously a little late this week!) so I can tell you guys what I've been up to! Let me know what you think!

- worked 9 days in a row (and survived!)
- experienced once of the scariest storms of my life
- got sent home from work on Friday as a result of said storm
- had a late-night trip to Target and an even later dinner in Applebees

- developed what I'm calling "lifeguard's tan"- brown thighs and feet, white calves
- saw my first rescues (but haven't had my own yet!)
- was the second person to work the new slide
- made friends with the ladies in the bank after my frequent visits
- had my first laundromat experience
- had two conversations about cameras
- had a giant bag of Sour Patch Kids won for me
- and then another bag
- perfected my veggie chilli recipe
- was sent a lovely picture book about a panda from my best friend Ellen
- ordered some new Converse
- gained three new housemates
- was taken out to the fair on the pier again and had lots of fun
- had my first Dippin' Dots Sundae
-crossed my fingers for the future
- realised that it's when I least expect it that I really miss my Grandparents
- ate cake for breakfast

- had an emotional breakdown deciding between two dresses (if you follow me on twitter you'll know all about this!)
- experienced my second scary storm
- got a little too much sun
- discovered Ben and Jerry's frozen greek yoghurt
- sent lots of love to my friends living in Duluth, where I used to live, where there has been serious flooding
- got a little homesick

- started to get an actual tan! (I always thought I didn't tan)
- discovered some great new songs from the playlist at work
- had one embarrassing cry at work
- really missed blogging
- had an unexpected but lovely Skype chat with my friend Eve
- watched Harry Potter with my housemates
- went on a really nice hour-and-a-half-long walk along the pier, just me and my headphones (thinking about doing it every day after work)
- while walking had this experience (this was for real the song I was listening to)

This week hasn't been quite as exciting as I've been working a lot, but I've still had a lot of fun. I hope you guys like this as a weekly feature- I know I do!
Let me know what you think anyway!
Now off to Target again!

All Star

I was 15 when I bought my first pair of converse. I'd just started to listen to Green Day and Good Charlotte and Simple Plan and it was the first time in my life when I realised how what you wore could make a statement about who you were. Over the next few years I was to become one of those emo kids who wore red eyeshadow and a My Chemical Romance hoodie to school and a tartan skirt with striped knee socks at the weekend, but this was my first foray into that kind of dressing. I bought them from ebay. Pink converse hi tops. I adored them. I wouldn't even cut the label out of them for fear of ruining their authenticity. I then bought a black pair with pink edging with my first paycheck when I was 16. I remember saying "as soon as I get paid for the first time I'm buying those converse." My first pay didn't even stretch to their price, but I bought them anyway. Then my best friend Jenny and I bought matching black ones with bright coloured graffiti up the back, which we wore consistently through our first year of college. My next pair were green, bought on a trip to Florida when I was 17 when the dollar to pound ratio was so good that I didn't even question the unusual colour choice). For a few years my trainers ended up at the back of my wardrobe with my checkered Vans and old hoodies, but then in summer 2010 I read an article over at College Fashion, around the time I first started writing for them, which completely inspired me to get my converse out again. After an ill-advised attempt to wash my old hitops, which completely ruined them (and the still-intact label), I bought these.

There is something about a pretty dress, a pair of converse and a denim jacket that just screams summer to me. The first time I wore converse on my blog was in the same way. I never get bored of it. We've had a lot of rain and storms over the last week, and I started to think I might need more than my sandals and flip flops for the summer, so after seeing classic black converse on both Annebeth and Olivia's blogs this week, I ordered a pair. I can't wait for them to arrive. I especially love Olivia's pairing with a pretty, fancy dress and a denim jacket. When I get home, I also want to dig out my red converse. My Mum found them for me in TK Maxx years ago, but they're a size and a half too small and I put star-print laces in them. Nothing new laces and a few mangled toes won't fix.

I hope you're having a lovely day. Thank you so much to my guest posters to held the fort for me while I've had a crazy week. I'll tell you everything I've been up to tomorrow!

Guest Post: Laura of Only Half Dressed

My final guest post of the week is from the lovely Laura of Only Half Dressed who is going to show us some of her nail art. Laura and I have been friends a long, long time and her blog is fab, so you should definitely go check it out!

When Charlotte asked me to guest post I wasn't sure what to post about and then I remember that Charlotte has been really getting into painting her nails recently. I was also one an avid nail biter, but as soon as I left school I stopped, apparently I only bite my nails when I'm bored! So since I've become a post-graduate student I don't have time to be bored but I do have time to dabble in some nail art and thought I would share some of my recent designs with you all.

These are some of my favourite designs mostly because they are so quick to achieve. I generally paint my nails at the same time as planning lessons, writing assignments or making resources so they have to be really quick and easy. Sometimes it really is easier to throw on a crackle/shatter polish though!

Guest Post: Amber of Modest June

Meet Amber of Modest June! Today she'll be telling us about some of her favourite films! As a girl whose favourite films are The Godfather and Fight Club I think she can show me a thing or two about classic movies! I hope you enjoy her post!

dress: asos shoes: payless

Hello friends! With summer comes the oportunity to catch up on reading and movies (hopefully) and while my plate's a bit full with summer courses, I've made it my goal to watch at least one film each week. While my friend Kate has a wonderful classic film blog that I've been working my way through, I thought it might be fun to compose a list of some of my favorite films in the hopes of learning yours and exchanging ideas! Without further ado..

 1. Any Wednesday-- This film on adultery is really something, and while I'm not usually a fan of these sort of stories, once can't help but get rapped up in the craziness of the film. It actually reminds me of Three's Company just for the action of it, the confusion, and the physical humor. Plus, 'drunk Jane' in the film is pretty hilarious.

 2. Sundays in New York-- another Jane Fonda film (sensing a pattern?).  Jane Fonda is amazing in this. Plus, this older film has so much sexual innuendo in it, something that truly surprised me considering the period it's from. I couldn't believe that they were getting away with it considering the censorship of the time.

3. Two for the Road-- This isn't my favorite Audrey Hepburn film, but it'd definitely in my top. THIS film is the original (500) Days of Summer, chronicling the moments of a relationship out of order. It's unlike many of Audrey's other films, but the gritty story is one that will keep you hooked. Fair warning-- there's a very annoying littler girl in this film. Ah!

4. River of No Return-- I'm not usually a fan of westerns, but this story has Marilyn Monroe as a saloon singer, features adventure, music, and life/death battles. As an added bonus, Marilyn uses her real speaking voice, something that's pretty refreshing.

5. Funny Face-- Fred Astaire dancing with Audrey Hepburn? Yes please. I'd love to hear your favorite films as well!

Love, Amber

Guest Post: Sian of Rebel Angel

Before I moved to NJ I asked some of my favourite bloggers to guest post for me, and things got a little crazy and they never went up! I'm working every day for 9 days this week, so I thought it was the perfect time to show off these lovely bloggers. First up, my blogging bestie, Sian.

Hi there Girl Next Door Fashion readers!! I'm Sian from Rebel Angel and I'm guest posting for Charlotte today. I'm think a few of you might have heard of me before – Charlotte and I have now met up a couple of times and are hoping to meet up again in future, so I've been mentioned several times over here! Charlotte and I actually tend to have pretty similar style and often end up with the same items of clothing (sometimes I just plain old copy Charlotte in her choice of clothes though, how can you go wrong there?!). Charlotte and I are very similar in not usually wearing trousers, but we both picked up a pair of trousers (hers being swan ones) very recently, and these are my ones! In fact I actually spotted a cheapy version of the swan trousers in Primark, and inspired by how well Charlotte wore them, I had to buy them (despite them having a not so nice elastic waistband!).

Jumper: c/o Motel
Red T shirt: Primark
Polka Dot Trousers: H&M
Bracelet: c/o Chamilia for Newcastle Fashion Week
Shoes: Charity Shop

I bought these polka dot trousers a few weeks ago now in H&M after seeing those floral trousers on everyone. I'd actually popped in looking for those but when I couldn't find them, spotted these hiding behind another item and loved them – at least not everyone else had these ones!! I decided to wear these as my first outfit for the Jubilee weekend with their red, white and blue polka dot print, originally just with a red tee, which I think looked better, but it was far too chilly for that so I added this jumper on top. As I said before, I'm not usually big on wearing trousers or jeans, I'm definitely more of a skirts and dresses kind of girl, but I'm slowly getting more and more into wearing trousers and skirts. I've just completed my degree and I'm starting a job teaching next year, so I'm thinking that these trousers with a blouse might be smart enough for that! So I hope you've all enjoyed this post! Usually I'd witter on in an outfit post, telling you all about my day etc. But I didn't want to bore you, and also now I've finished my degree I'm not really doing a lot except moving out of my flat and back home! But pop over to my blog Rebel Angel to say hi if you've enjoyed it, I don't bite =)

This week I have...

I meant to post this yesterday but things have been a little crazy. Yesterday I finished work to find my purse (or wallet as you guys call it!) wasn't in my bag. I've spent the last two days turning my room upside down, calling my banks, excessively checking my online banking, calling various police stations and crying. I don't know if it's just lost or if it's been stolen but it's been a really sucky few days trying to sort it all out. I'm crossing my fingers it shows up. Anywhere, here's what I've done this week, interspersed with photos I took on Friday at the pier.
