Summer Lovin'

Well I think it's fair to say summer is here, at least for now! I'm one part excited and one part sad. This is the first full summer I've had in the UK for two years and I know all the ideas I have for picnics in the park, pub gardens and trips to the beach are likely to be rained off. I'm starting to miss my summers in Minnesota and New Jersey! Plus it's my first summer of working properly. Sure I had summer jobs but I still had that beautiful nearly-four-month stretch of beautiful uni summer. Yesterday there were people sat in the park opposite my work in the sun having lunch and it was torture! God what I'd give to be sad on a lifeguard chair in New Jersey again this summer!

As I mentioned the other day, summer dressing for work is also starting to be a bit of a problem. I mean, how do you look smart when you're in a baking hot office all day without baring too much skin or looking too casual? At the moment I'm going for floral dresses, nude heels and swapping my dark jackets and skirts for bright equivalents, starting with this mint one from Boohoo. I got paid on Friday and decided to spend a big chunk of my wages on summery dresses, especially after a three week shopping ban, and this one is my new favourite for work. I don't normally go for lantern dresses and worry that they're unflattering but I actually really love this one. I've fallen in love with Oasis lately, as there dresses are just a little bit longer and smarter than some of their high street contemporaries. Of course, I pay for that with the price but I think for work stuff it's definitely worth paying more for better quality. I have bought a few cheap summery dresses though for the weekends. I just want minimum fuss this summer; floral dresses, bare legs and ballet pumps.
Despite what I said a few weeks ago about wanting to relax more, it definitely didn't happen today! My to-do list this morning was a tad ambitious. I got up at 6.15 to wash my hair, spent half an hour prepping veg for lunch (I made this again), put all that in the oven for 40 minutes while I did my makeup, dried and curled my hair and got dressed, finished off preparing lunch, took photos and had breakfast. It was definitely a bit of a rush! I went out on Saturday night and I swear I'm still catching up on sleep! Thankfully I did my workout as soon as I got in from work (though I've gotta admit, my heart really wasn't in it!), so I think I'm gonna chill out with a fruit tea and watch Netflix before bed!

Have a lovely evening!

  2. I know the feeling of what is appropriate and what is not to wear to the office on a hot day. This dress certainly ticks all the right boxes. A three week shopping ban?? how on earth did you manage that?

  8. Office wear in the summer is so tricky! Especially as most offices go mad on the air-con, so you end up with some sort of complex layering system so you're the right temperature for your commute, the office and your lunch-break.
