When life gives you browning bananas...

You wanna know the truth? I'm not wearing this today. Nor was I wearing this yesterday.  Last week I wore and photographed all of the remaining outfits so this week, while I'm doing "business casual" in London on my work experience, you still have something pretty to look at (and by that I mean my clothes, not me). Today is my first official day free from 30 for 30 and I'm relaxing in my maxi dress with no jewellery or accessories . Because I can, that's why. I know I'm not wearing it on these pictures, but I love my floral maxi. Those pictures make me both happy and sad to look at. This is also the dress I'm wearing on the picture of Erick and I in Chicago that he got framed for my leaving present. Anyway, onto this outfit...

This outfit was actually supposed to be outfit 20, but I didn't get round to photographing it (and by that I mean I was too lazy that day). I wasn't sure if it would work- the inclusion of this leopard skirt was a bit risky in my 30 for 30 items. I do have another outfit coming up including it though. I like the fact the white lace top breaks up the patterns, and I love the stripes. I stole this cardigan from my Mum- I think it will be a regular feature when the weather cools down.

Today is a perfect lazy Sunday. Well, lazy-ish. I'm getting the train to London at 5pm so I'm spending the day relaxing and packing. Oh and making muffins!! We had a couple of gross-looking bananas and didn't know what to do with them, so yesterday I grabbed some stuff from work to make chocolate chip banana muffins. The recipe is from my lovely friend, Laura, who I baked them with last year and they are yummy!! I'm going to bring some to London to share with my wonderful friend Poppy who is letting me stay with her this week. I'm super-excited. Now, onto the food porn...

Ingredients
3 large bananas
1 and 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
1 egg
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/3 butter (I used salted but if you use unsalted add some salt)
Chocolate chips (I used two small bags and they were very chocolatey!!)
Nuts (optional but I added walnuts)

Direction
Preheat oven to 375/190 degrees
Combine ingredients and mix
Spoon into a muffin tray with paper cases (I made 22 medium-sized muffins from my mix)
Bake for 18-24 minutes (I made quite small muffins so I only cooked them for 15 minutes- we also have a fan oven)
Enjoy with a cuppa!!

Mmm. This week has been a busy, but pretty nice week (despite being sick for most of it!!). I caught up with some friends, wrote A LOT of articles, worked, and had a lovely, lovely chat with Erick on Thursday. We talked for two whole hours (I have no idea what about!!) and I was in a lovely happy bubble for two days afterwards. I'm getting excited about it being August tomorrow. August means more work experience (I think I have 2 weeks arranged!!), two trips to London, a wedding (my Godmother is getting married in a couple of weeks- man, I'd better book a hair cut!!), and then September!! September means going back to uni and going back to uni means yay and also means Erick will be coming soon!! Granted, he's not coming til October but we're almost 2 months down, 2 and a half to go :DD Things are definitely getting easier. I no longer spend my entire messages and conversations with him moaning about how much I miss him and I've stopped snapping at him for no reason other than that I miss him. Things are still hard and I miss him every day, but in another phrase typical of Erick "it is what it is." Just gotta keep positive, keep talking and keep living our own lives.

I'll be back this week with more 30 for 30 outfits, but for now I'd better get packing for London!!

Have a lovely Sunday and make muffins!!

Flower Power

The first time I saw double florals it was on Tieka's blog and I remember rushing to the Forever 21 website to buy that blouse. Unfortunately- or fortunately, depending on the way you look at it- it was out of stock. I was convinced for a while that none of my florals would work together, until I read this post on College Fashion, which demonstrated that it was just as simple as matching one of the colours in each of the floral pieces. So, one day last week while I was standing at the fish counter (my life is soooo glamourous) I started thinking about my floral tops and florals skirts and made a quick list (if you're new to my blog, hi, I'm charlotte and I'm an obsessive planner and organiser) and came up with a few combinations. Imagine my excitement when I realised I had a perfect double-floral outfit in my 30 for 30 items- huzzah!! So that, my friends, is how this outfit came together.

I've felt kinda stuck in a rut with my photography lately and I've just started to resent it. I think a lot of it is to do with the fact that because of 30 for 30, especially because of being behind, I've had to photograph every single day I've had off from work and it's just getting old. Instead of enjoying it, it's just snap snap snap and frustration when my pictures don't come out right. But today I downloaded The Art of Self Portraiture and read it all this afternoon. I'm a little more inspired now and hope it will help me to take better pictures, and hopefully help my to enjoy photography again. I find taking self portraits incredibly frustrating at times and I'm very impatient, which doesn't help. I'm just hoping to spend some more time taking photographs and find some more creative poses. In short, I'm bored.

Just a couple of things to note today- first of all, if you are interested in sponsoring my blog for August, please check out my advertising post from yesterday and email me for rates and stats. Secondly, I am featured over at Laura's blog today on a post about strange little quirks we all have- you can read about one of my weird things over there. And thirdly, I wanna give a little mention to Mara whose outfit on Monday was inspired by my outfit!! I felt a little bit famous and it was super-exciting to have inspired someone!! Yay!!

Finally, a soppy little musing on love. Love is different for every person, and every couple. Every relationship is different. Sometimes we can't understand the love of other people, and sometimes we can't understand our own. Late last night, after a long and tiring day (I was sick yesterday and spent the whole day lying on the sofa watching 30 Rock- true story) I was feeling overwhelmed and miserable. And while I've heard it a million times, hearing I love you from my boyfriend 5000 miles away still feels as amazing as the first time he said it. And last night I really needed it. I honestly don't know why he loves me, or how he puts up with me, but that's love, isn't it? You don't know how and you don't know why, but you just know. Okay, end cheesiness.

That's all from me today. Have a lovely day!

Keep on keeping on.

Some days aren't so fun. Some days you're sick and you have a million and one things to do that don't involve being sick. Some days you're hormonal and bloated and feel gross. Some days you just feel tired and lonely and fed up. And some days you don't get something you really wanted. And then you doubt yourself and your abilities completely. And it can be hard to pick yourself back up again and get some perspective. And it can be hard to accept that you'd told yourself you'd be okay if this didn't happen. And it can be hard to say, well, did I really want this anyway? Sometimes you have to just accept that some things just happen. And maybe some things don't happen because they're making way for even better things. Who knows, really? We don't really know why things happen, but all we can do is learn from them. And all I know is that the belief that everything happens for a reason is sometimes the only thing that gets you through. And in the scheme of things, maybe this doesn't matter so much. I don't know. But I guess I have to take the advice of my boyfriend- keep on keeping on.

Not a lot to say today cause I'm kinda sick and while I've kept going all day with writing and attempting to work out, I'm starting to feel crappy. But yeah. This skirt is actually a dress, which you will know if you've been following my blog for a little bit. I'm running out of ideas with 30 for 30 and getting stuck in a bit of a rut. I'm excited for it to be over though because while it's been a great experience and I've learnt a lot, it's dragged out for much longer than I would have liked. It's funny, before I started blogging, or at least reading blogs, I would never have thought of wearing a dress a skirt, but this worked quite well. Bloggers are so creative- remixing is definitely the best skill I've learnt from blogging!!

I just noticed I was meant to be wearing my leather jacket with this outfit. I am obviously not wearing my leather jacket. This is what being sick will do to you.

Oh as you can see, I attempted winged eyeliner. I have many talents in life- I am an excellent tap-dancer and I make a mean sweet potato curry- but the ability to do winged eyeliner is not one of them.

I'm gonna go lie down and try to sleep off this gross Summer cold.
Have a wonderful day,

Weekend Remix

If you're a fan of Rebecca's blog, you've probably seen her Saturday Remix posts. They're one of my favourite blog features- she is so creative! I love looking back over the ways I have remixed different items- looking back is a great way to find new inspiration. Now, weekends are notoriously hard for me to update. I usually have work on both Saturday and Sunday, and my Asda uniform really isn't stylish enough to be featured on my blog, so I'm hoping to start a Weekend Remix post every week, either Saturday or Sunday, so you can still get a little peek into my style without me having to come up with something new when I'm tired from a long day!! I am notoriously bad at having specific days associated with certain posts (yeah, Love Lust and Links on a Sunday kinda died...). Since I've been home for Summer, routine has been hard to find (which is partially why I've been going crazy), but I'm hoping I can stick to this. At least for a while!

Today, we're looking at this floral playsuit from Primark. I bought this last Summer and didn't think I'd wear it too much- I do own a LOT of florals. It's also super-short. But I found myself wearing it a lot during my first few months at UMD and it's perfect for summer and winter as I can layer over it pretty easily. I liked the idea of wearing it under a skirt (going to the toilet was a nightmare!!) and I wish I could pull off the jumper-over-top layered thing, but I apparently can't. I think the last outfit is my favourite. Here are the different ways I've worn it (and like last week, don't laugh at how chubby I was last winter).

Like the dress I wore last week, I seem to wear this with a lot of red. You can't see too well but the dress has tiny red flowers on it, so I tend to match to that. I definitely have some more ideas for this playsuit though.

More remixes next week!! See you Monday for an outfit post :]]

You're So Last Summer

This outfit was the kind of thing I lived in last summer. Especially these socks and shoes. They just remind me of last year. This outfit in particular from May 2010. Including this nude top and nude skirt was an unusual choice for my 30 for 30 pieces and this is the first time I've worn either of them. I was super into nude last summer, but I guess I haven't worn it so much this year. I also made a bit of a strange choice including these shoes. I guess I made a couple of errors in judgement regarding my 30 for 30 pieces. I've been looking back over my picks a lot lately and will be writing about them (and what I would have done differently) when the challenge is over.

One thing I really wanted to show you today was my makeup. I haven't really developed the talent for photographing makeup (or for makeup itself!!) but I thought it looked pretty good today.

I used the maybelline perfect pastels quad which is a really lovely pallette. It's a light seafoam green base, a pinky-lilac lid colour, a purple crease colour and a dark green liner. You can't see it too well on the pictures but I thought it looked great!!

I've had a really great day today. I got up and worked out and go on with some articles, then I hung out with my friend Kayleigh all day. I hadn't seen her properly since I've been home so we had a good catch up with pizza, Diet Coke and Sex and the City. Then this evening I went for a pub tea with my dad. Bean burger and a white wine spritzer was the order of the day. Pretty great day as far as I'm concerned!!

Wish I had more interesting stuff to say, but alas, by life is not super-exciting at the moment. Plus I have work tomorrow at 8am so it's gonna be an early night for me. Hope you're all having a great day!!

Skype, Leopard Print and 72 Pairs of Shoes

Who wants to hear a funny story about this outfit? Well, remember when I went to San Francisco and I mentioned that my friend Michelle and I were mistaken for hookers? Well, this was what I was wearing. After I told Erick about the being-mistaken-for-a-hooker incident, he admitted that he wasn't that surprised because "well do you really think you dress modestly when you go out?" (Yeah, they say romance isn't dead...) But when I showed him that I was wearing this- just a tank top and skirt, leopard ankle socks and heels (I was also wearing a leather jacket- San Fran is cold!!- and you couldn't see my leopard bra through my shirt as you can today), he accepted that I didn't look that slutty. So there you go. This is my hooker outfit.

Erick and I had a lovely Skype chat last night. I felt as though I laughed the whole hour and a half we were talking.  It can get really hard sometimes and I worry that we'll have nothing to say to each other when we speak. I sometimes forget how well we get on and all the stuff we have in common and the memories we have. I feel as though I've been on a little happy buzz since last night. I'm a very happy girl. You guys have been awesome though. I can't believe how many of my readers are in Long Distance Relationships too!! It's always great to talk to someone going through the same thing.

I meant to photograph yesterday's outfit too today but you know what? I really couldn't be bothered. I am going to photograph it this week though, because I don't want to get more behind on 30 for 30. I am trying not to long too much for this challenge ending, but I've ended up accidentally buying a couple of things since I've been home which I can't wait to wear. I have so many outfit ideas I want to get on with!!

I absolutely love these earrings. I really wanted to wear a necklace today too, but I didn't want to overload on jewellery. Whenever I wear leopard print I feel I have to wear these earrings. My friend Eve bought me them a few years ago and they're probably my favourite earrings. I'm not really into jewellery but I have a few pieces I really love. I also ended up matching my bra to my socks. You weren't really meant to see it, but I underestimated how see-through this top was!!

coral tank top- topshop
leopard socks- sock shop in San Francisco
shoes- blowfish

Today has been kinda boring. My friend Shaunagh was sick so I've just spent the day doing, guess what? writing articles!! Managed to get quite a bit of stuff done though, which was nice. I also decided I was a good idea to get ALL my shoes out today to admire them. And count them. 72 pairs isn't excessive, right?

Well, tonight I'm going to see my Grandad in the hopsital so have a great evening!!
