Alone in St. Paul

As you can tell, yet again, from these beautiful pictures, my gorgeous boyfriend snapped these yesterday. He's being very good about it, even though he does get a bit bored. Thanks, Erick!! I really appreciate it :]] I'm going to miss him when he goes back to work, though I might just wait until he gets home to take my pictures. I'd like to take advantage of my photographer while I can!! These were taken outside his house in Elk River, MN, where I'm staying with him and his parents until I fly home (and in-between trips). They have a lot of land which is awesome, and on Monday night Erick and I went and used their hot tub which is on their patio area in the back, but at night it just feels awesome to be in the quiet amongst the trees and in a hot tub!! Erick's parents are wonderful and I'm so grateful for letting me stay with them!!

Well, as you can tell from the title, I'm hanging out by myself today in Minnesota's capital, St. Paul. Erick starts back at his Summer job on Monday and he has orientation here in St. Paul today and tomorrow. He had his hotel paid for so he's letting me stay with him down here for the next two days. However, I have no idea what to do with myself while he's at work!! I am currently sitting in a Dunn Bros, stealing their internet and trying to find things to do. I'm not far from the library, the science museum, Minnesota State Capitol, Macy's and by the looks of it, a couple of thrift stores so I'm hoping I find enough things to do. I'm going to hate it when he starts back at work!! I miss him already!! But, we have spent almost all day, every day together since Friday so it'll be nice for us to have a little time apart I suppose!! Plus we go to Chicago tomorrow night which I'm super excited about!!

A little bit about the outfit. This is my other maxi dress and this was the first time I'd worn it. It's quite a bit shorter than my other one, and I was worried it looked...awkward. It hits just around my ankles and is therefore much, much easier to walk in than my super-long one, which I loved. In my other one I was constantly worried about falling over the hem, and I also had to wear it with heels which was another challenge. This was the perfect length for swishing about without falling over, but looking over these pictures I'm worried it's too short. I also had a big shoe issue. I knew Erick and I were going to be out and about yesterday so I didn't want to wear heels, and I don't have any sandals (I left them all in England, smart, I know), and I wasn't sure how ballet flats would look with this dress. Luckily, the wonderful Annebeth pointed me in the direction of Rebecca of The Clothes Horse wearing a maxi with ballet flats which made me feel a little better, but I'm still worried it looks weird with my feet poking out!!

dress- boohoo
waistcoat- vintage from Mum
shoes- primark
flower- new look

This waistcoat, by the way, was my Mum's when she was my age. Isn't it fab? She gave it me last year and I love it. Something interesting though- it's a UK 12 from 30 years ago and I can just about get it buttoned. I am probably an 8-10 on top, and I would say this fits like a UK 8. This definitely demonstrates the reality of vanity sizing.

Oh and Erick hates having his photo taken. So I took lots of photos of him too. I followed him around for about 5 minutes trying to get him to smile for me!! He also cut his hair yesterday so I wanted a few pictures of it while it was still long. Do any other girls hate it when their boyfriend's cut their hair? I love his hair long!!

This is Erick's dog, Bella. She is deathly afraid of me, but loves Erick. Erick likes dogs more than people.

Well I'm going to have some alone time with google maps and find out what happens in St. Paul at 8.30am on a Wednesday in the middle of the business district!!
I hope I get a chance to update tomorrow because we go to Chicago tomorrow night so I'll be out of the blogosphere for a few days (I hope, at least!! I like it when I go away to completely avoid thinking about blogging for a while!!). I hope Erick and I might get a chance to snap some photos tomorrow when we get back to his house, but I have yet more packing to do!! I feel like I've spent my life packing!! Friday I moved out of my apartment, Monday I moved out of Erick's house in Duluth and into his house in Elk River, then yesterday I had to pack for St. Paul and tomorrow I'll be packing for Chicago. Then Tuesday for San Francisco!! I'm a busy girl, but I wouldn't have it any other way!!

Have an awesome Wednesday,

Charlotte xxx

  1. Wow that dress is amazing!! And don't worry it doesn't look awkward at all!! You may have inspired me to pull out my maxi dress that's suddenly decided to be too short on me haha =) Oh and I hate it when Ben cuts his hair, I pull faces at him the whole time but he still doesn't stop! Loving that photo of Erick with the dog too, so cute!!

  4. You're looking even more lovely these days! It's so odd to have a photographer instead of a tripod right? I find myself thanking my photographer over and over.

Anyhow, Chicago sounds like fun! I hope you have a great time together.

  5. aww the puppy is adorable. you did a wonderful job styling this look. the jean vest is a great way to tie the look together and the red flower just brightens up your face so nicely. you look very put together and how comfy must that dress be lol

  6. I love this dress! It's so bright and colourful and awesome. And the flats are adorable, imo. The length doesn't look awkward at all either.

Thankfully for me, my boyfriend never cuts his hair. He gets the extremely rare once-a-year trim, but it consistently flutters long and loose about his shoulder blades :)

  9. I think that maxi is the perfect length! Any longer and I'd be worried about ripping the hem from stepping on it so much. It's probably the prettiest maxi dress I've seen circling the internet- especially with the detail towards the bottom half of the dress.

Enjoy spending time with Erick and have fun in Chicago!
