Leopard and Mint

I'm sorry I've been MIA the last few days. I've been so busy, and my days off have been super-lazy, but I'm still going to try to get three posts a week up as much as I can. It's been so hot here the last few days that as soon as I get home from work all I want to do is sleep. I've also been kinda homesick which has really sucked. Yesterday, I really, really missed my friends. To the point where I nearly cried. I've mentioned before that my uni friends are my soul mates. We share so many of the same core values and interests and I miss that. I absolutely love my friends here, don't get me wrong, I've met some awesome people, but missing other friends doesn't mean you love the company you have any less right? I was also homesick because today was my Mum's birthday. And I was 3888 miles away from home. To put that into context, I've never, in 22 years, missed my Mum's birthday. Our trip travelling around Europe two years ago was planned to ensure I got back just in time to celebrate with her. I've always there for her birthday. My Mum and I are very, very close. Of course, because of this we fight like cat and dog (we are sooooooo similar) but she is my best friend (albeit one who steals my clothes). I skyped her on my lunch break today which was really nice, but it's not the same. I've been here almost a month already and I'm having a great time, but I still have three more months before I can see my family and friends. But I know homesickness will come and go, but the most important thing is that I enjoy my time here and cherish this experience. Sometimes when I'm at work and I'm wishing for it to be time to go home, I stop and remind myself of what an amazing opportunity it is and not to wish my life away, and it really helps. I've paid hundreds of pounds, filled out dozens of forms and sent countless emails to make this experience happen and now I'm here I want to enjoy it as much as possible.

These photos are from last week. I still have another 4 lots of outfit photos to post up (a lot from before I left), but these felt appropriate today as this is the kind of outfit you're going to see more of here often the next few months. Simple. I didn't bring a lot of clothes with me, plus it's crazy-hot here, so my outfit are going to be a little, well, boring, for a while. I guess that happens with summer though! I'm a big fan of layering so I always feel like my summer outfits are a little boring. I'm already getting excited for next season. Autumn is my favourite season!

Well tonight has been productive- washed my hair, made tagine, blogged- so I'm gonna have an early night with my kindle now I think. Tomorrow I have work and then I'm going to see the new Spiderman movie. I have huge crushes on both Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield so I'm excited!

Have a great evening guys!

  1. First, I love how your hair looks in these photos, and I like this outfit - simple can be good :)

As for the homesick thing, well, I can relate. I haven't spent my mom's birthday or mother's day with her since I was in high school, and finally this year I may fly home the week before her birthday in October. My mom hadn't spent mother's day with my grandmother in Colombia for over two decades until this year. It's tough, but it's a tradeoff, so you grin and bear it and send them your love.

Also, for the age difference thing, I feel like that's understandable. At least it doesn't weird you out to date someone a month younger than you.

  2. This outfit is divine! I love anything with leopard print - it was genius of you to pair it with mint!

I think weather you are in the states or at home, there is always going to be a feeling of what you're missing elsewhere. It's a vicious cycle that only you can try to beat. Keep your head up and enjoy every second of your life! (easier said that done, right? lol)

  3. Hate when homesickness gets to me like that but it really does help you to appreciate wherever you are in life and the people in it. Love the mint skirt!

  5. So fricken in love with your leopard top. I would kill for that! Well not really but I like it a lot to the point of utter desperation. Your skirt is super cute too! I love pleats. I honestly got so jealous when I read that your university friends are your friends for life friends, I want friends like that so badly! But high school is just tough, and my high school is so tiny and it's hard to branch out when there is no where to branch out to.

Amazing blog post, and amazing blog! Can't wait for more!

  6. You look gorgeous, I desperately wanted to buy that skirt in my local Primark but they didn't have it in my size. I ended up with a purple one instead (for only a £5 I can hardly complain). Sorry stuff has been difficult this week, it can be so difficult being away from people that you love. My boyfriend is away at the moment and I am being such a baby about it. You've got such a positive outlook though, I'm sure you'll be fine. Have a great weekend xo
