Pearls are a girl's best friend

I was never really into pearls when I was younger- they always seemed too prim and too preppy. In fact, I've never really been into jewellery. I've always been jealous of those girls who can perfectly put together an outfit and accessorize it just right. Most days, I don't really wear jewellery at all. But one piece I absolutely love are my fake pearls, which were about £10 from Topshop. I wear them all the time- on their own, or layered with other jewellery. There's something about adding pearls to an outfit that gives it instant class. It instantly makes it more interesting.

As I've said, my pearls were from Topshop, but I would love a set of real pearls. When I was asked to have a look around the gorgeous Winterson wesbite, which has a whole host of pearl jewellery, I was excited to look at the designs and plan outfits in my head for how I would wear them. While I do have a few pairs of pearl earrings and bracelets (all fake, of course!!), I absolutely love their selection of pearl necklaces.

One of my favourites is the Classic White Japanese Akoya Pearl Necklace. I would love to wear this with a simple LBD and black heels, letting the necklace do the talking.

My other favourite is the Triple Strand White Freshwater Pearl Necklace with diamonds. This is an amazing stand-out necklace, so I would love to pair it with something really simple, like a plain white shirt, blazer and jeans.

  2. I want that Topshop Shirt! Actually, I love the whole second outfit! Pearl is apparently my birth stone, so I got given a pearl necklace for my birthday from my housemates but I love these ones even more! Just don't tell them! haha xxx

  3. I bought my mother a real pearl necklace with matching earrings a few Christmases ago. I'm not a huge fan of the perfect, round flawless stereotypical pearls too much. I adore the wonkier pearls, and ones in different colours. They come in so many shades and natural shapes, not to mention their being so much more affordable while still being real pearls.

  4. I love layered pearl necklaces like that, but with more strands. It looks so chunky and nice like that. Honestly when I was really into my sorority I wore those BIG fake pearl earrings every single day. Now, when I see them I think of pimples with whiteheads begging to be popped cause thats what they look like. So...yea... ;)
re-reading this comment its probably totally ridiculous.

  6. I have a string of Mikimoto pearls that were my great-grandmother's. They are from the 1950s - my great-grandfather got them for her, plus a set of matching earrings, for their 20th anniversary. They cost something like a year's wages back then!! I don't wear them a lot because they're worth so much, both money-wise and family-wise (I would hate to snap them or have them break, that would be awful!), but every time I see the box on my shelf, I feel so happy. They are my "special occasion" necklace, for sure, ha ha. :] I really want to get a cheap strand to wear with other outfits though.
