It's a Hoot!!

Yesterday, I was going to start a new weekly feature on my blog. I had really good intentions, I even started writing. But you know what? Sometimes you need a day off from blogging. I absolutely love my blog and I love blogging, but I needed a day to just... not blog. Not that I have much to say! Today I just wrote articles and went to dancing. Oh and went to the doctor because yesterday I was crying thinking I had diabetes. I do not have diabetes. Yay.

So Matalan sent me this dress a few weeks ago. I'd actually been eyeing it up for ages after seeing it in loads of magazines, so when they got in touch asking if I wanted one I was over the moon! It's so gorgeous in real life and I love the style. Perfect for autumn! One thing I will say though is that it does run very big. This is a size 8 and it fits more like a 12. I would definitely order a size or two down for a snug fit. I thought the blazer I added helped it from looking too big though and helped define my waist- I obviously couldn't belt it because of the drop waist!

I'm on owl-jewellery overload today. I bought this cute ring from Forever 21 when I was in San Francisco and I saw it today in my jewellery box (which is actually a shoe box) and thought I'd put it on. I don't wear a lot of jewellery, but I bought two rings off ebay a few days ago that I loved so I want to get used to wearing them. I tend to get bored and just take them off! I bought this Betsey Johnson Skull Ring and this adorable panda ring. Ooh speaking of pandas! Most of you already know this, but I love pandas. I have so much panda stuff! Anyway, I found out yesterday that my parents are taking me to Edinburgh over Christmas to see the pandas that they have just received from China! I can't believe I'm actually going to see a real-life panda!! I also can't wait to go to Edinburgh- I've heard it's gorgeous and have wanted to go for ages!

I'll be back tomorrow. Have a lovely evening, guys!!

Maroon 5

Hmm. This outfit worked really well in my head, but in real life I'm just not loving it. This skirt is a bit of a nightmare too. It's kinda see-through so I wear an underskirt under it, and it's also way too big. As is the underskirt. So I kinda spend my day ensuring that the underskirt isn't bunched up too much and that they are both under the belt, and then I had my blouse to contend with too. I also, like Friday, think there's too much maroon going on. And finally, I had a bit of a jacket crisis. All of my coats are mid-thigh length, which would have left some skirt sticking out underneath. I tried my military jacket which just looked a bit funny, before finally going for my aviator jacket, which looked not perfect, but would get me from my house to the library. I am very thankful for the unseasonably warm weather!!

Mondays are rarely productive, and this one was no exception. I like to start my week on a Tuesday. On a Monday, I am always still tired from work on Saturday night. and my two-hour seminar always interrupts my study time, even though it represents half of my class time for the week. I was extra-tired today as dinner went on til 11.30pm last night- and I had dragged myself to the library yesterday afternoon, even if it was only for 3 hours. It was such a great night though- Beth made so much food (which was amazing!!) and I made brownies and we just talked and watched TV. Perfect Sunday night. Today I had a bit of a sleep-in (sleeping in til 9 is a lie-in for me) and before I knew it it was time for class. Once I'd had lunch and had tea with my friend Eve, I only managed about 3 hours of library time today. However, I did get to my dance class and find out it was cancelled, and even though I was gutted (advanced hip hop is my favourite dance class) it did mean I could come home an hour earlier, and ergo get to bed an hour earlier. Score.

My 9am class tomorrow is cancelled because my teacher is ill, but because I'm so cool I think I'm gonna try and hit the library for 9 instead. Tuesday is also the only night I don't dance so it's likely to be a pretty epic library sesh tomorrow. My Mum is coming to visit at the weekend though, so I'm trying to get as much done as I can so we can spend Saturday Christmas shopping, eat delicious food and going to the Christmas markets. Early-morning library means no outfit photos tomorrow though (it's too dark now when I get home, sad face), but I have a new (hopefully!) weekly feature which I'm going to start tomorrow, so keep your eye out for that!

Have a lovely evening guys!!

Week in Photos

My week in photos is always quite nice because it reminds me because there has been more going on in my week than simply sitting in the library, although that is what it often feels like. Here's what I've been up to this week...

1. Gilet over blazer
I can't work out if I like this look or not. Opinions?
2. Christmas tree!
There are two Christmas trees at the library now! They make me so happy!!
3. Another red dress outfit
This time with a leather jacket and leopard tights.

4. Curry night out
I absolutely love curry, so this was a proper treat. It was so nice to go out with my friends from work for the night.
5. Lovely new nail polishes
Maybelline silver, Rimmel glitter and my new Essie Licorice
6. Best. Sammich. Ever.
This was literally the best sandwich ever. Roasted vegetables, goat's cheese and balsamic syrup. Amazing.

7. Pretty accent nails
I am obsessed with accent nails. This is my new favourite.
8-9: Frank Turner
It was so awesome to see Frank Turner for the 5th time on Thursday. He was amazing! Such a good night.

10: More accent nails
This time it was the Tate nail polish from Glamour and my new Essie black
11. Pretty lazy-day makeup
I thought I'd make an effort today so I followed one of my favourite tutorials from Keiko Lynn.
12. Side plait
When I was growing my hair, my dream was to finally have it long enough to do a side plait. It was so nice to be able to do it today! The back is pinned and hairsprayed a bit because my layers are still a bit short to come all the way around, but it was perfect Sunday hair.

13-15: Epic Sunday Dinner
My housemate Beth invited some friends over and we had an amazing Sunday dinner. 13 shows cauliflower cheese and amazing mashed potato (she also made roast potatoes! Including separate ones for me that didn't have meat in), 14 shows the veggie spinach and feta pie (the meat-eaters had chicken), and 15 shows yorkshire puddings. I didn't get a picture of the yummy roast vegetables though.
16. My chocolate brownies
My contribution to the meal was a batch of chocolate brownies, which we had warm with ice cream. They were really, really good. The diet starts tomorrow, right?

Weekend Remix: Red Zara Dress

(counter-clockwise from top left) outfit one/outfit two/outfit three
I apologise first for one of the ugliest and quickest-made graphics I've posted on my blog recently. I am just about to leave for work so this is a quick one. Oh god, I've not even included outfit numbers. Hey, you're smart kids, you can work it out.

This dress was an absolute bargain, and it gets so many compliments it's ridiculous. It was £10 in the Zara sale over the summer and I ummed and ahhed over it, before thinking, oh well, it's a tenner. I already had a red dress so I wasn't sure if I'd wear it, but it's so lovely. The material is so thick and it's just a very pretty dress. The fit is a bit funny though- it's huge on the waist and really tight on the arms (which makes me super self-conscious), and I think it's an XS because they had no Smalls left when I went to get it. I'd tried it on in at lunchtime when I was on work experience and come back to get it, and there was thankfully, one left in an XS so I thought it was fate!

I really like all of these outfits. I think the first one was great for summer, but it's definitely much more of a fall/winter dress. I loved layering jackets and jumpers over it!

Which look is your favourite? Do you have any ideas on other ways to wear it? Let me know in the comments!!

I'd better be off to work- I'll be back tomorrow!!

We're going nowhere slowly but we're seeing all the sights

I feel like all of my outfits have been inspired by someone else lately. Is that a bad thing? I don't know, I guess all inspiration has to come from somewhere, and hey, people like to hear they inspired you right? Anyway, this is another inspired outfit. Inspired today by one of my biggest inspirations and favourite bloggers, Keiko Lynn.

I was so excited about recreating this outfit when I saw it last night on Keiko's blog, but I don't think it really worked on me. I tried my leather jacket with my outfit but it didn't look right, but looking over the photos I'm not sure if maroon tights and a maroon cardigan is too much maroon. Kinda like I'm wearing a big maroon onesie under my clothes? I dunno, I love the look on Keiko but I don't think I really got this one right. I do love the maroon tights and pink shoes though.

cardigan- Primark

The only part of my outfit which is not over 3 years old is my cardigan. Well, and my tights. But the blouse, as I mentioned last time I wore it, was part of my 18th Birthday outfit, I bought this skirt in my first year of uni- when I was obsessed with this style of skirt- and the shoes I bought at the tender age of 17. Back when I could afford to dress head-to-toe in Topshop. Remember those days when you had a part-time job and didn't have to pay bills or pay for food? Those were the days.

I had the hardest time photographing my nails today and I have no idea why. I just couldn't get my camera to focus on my hand! This was the best I could do! I'd been looking for the perfect black nail varnish, and after reading a lot of reviews I went for this Essie one, which is absolutely fab. It goes on so so thick, even after one coat. Now for my next mission- the perfect chip-proof topcoat. Any recommendations?

My week has been kinda boring, but I had to get over my cold yesterday to go and see Frank Turner, who was amazing, as always. Today has been pretty boring, but I did go to an Anxiety Workshop today on campus, which was kinda helpful. It was for people who worry too much- eg. me!- on helping them to manage their anxiety. I don't think it will cure me overnight, but I'm hoping it will be helpful. I am now spending my evening snuggled up in my pajamas watching one of my favourite films- (500) Days of Summer- which my housemates. Perfect Friday night!!

Have a great weekend guys!

Tartan and Stripes

I look a lot better than I feel in these photos. Today was my last day of being sick, I've decided. I've still been working all day. I finished my book, worked on my disseratation, napped, drunk a lot of medicated drinks and tried to rest as much as possible. I still feel rubbish, but I can't afford to have another day at home. I've got a dissertation meeting tomorrow and I'm going to see Frank Turner tomorrow night too, so I need an early night and lots of rest and the will to feel better!!

This was what I wore this morning, before swiftly changing in my sweatpants and a hoodie. Man oh man are my sweatpants comfy. They sometimes make me never want to wear real clothes again. Anyway, this outfit was in part inspired by Annebeth of The Styling Dutchman.

I was lamenting the fact that I don't have a white cable-knit jumper and almost gave up on the outfit til I got one (it's on my wish list!) but then I pulled this jumper out and forgot it's a kind of off-white. I don't wear this  jumper nearly enough, but my Mum bought it me last year and she loves it, so this outfit is for her today. I hadn't worn knee high socks in ages, but I fancied a bit of a change today. Also, they were extra-Annebeth! I did have a fab red beret to wear too, but my head is too small (?) and it kept falling off!!

Well, I'd better go have one last night of rest before it's back to the grind.
Have a fab evening,

So sick, so sick of being tired and oh so tired of being sick

dress- Zara
jacket- Primark
boots- New Look
Minnesota necklace- Kris Nations

1) This post will be in bulletpoints today as I am sick and in bed and forming coherent sentences is not my strong point right now.
2) I have no idea how I got the energy up to take these photos.
3) I don't think I look too awful in the photos, however, I do think I just don't look too happy.
4) My presentation went well- one down, one to go. Can't wait for tomorrow's to be over.
5) This is my £10 Zara sale dress, which gets a ridiculous amount of compliments and makes me happy
6) This, minus the jacket (with the leopard belt which you can't really see), was what I wore when I met Erick a few weeks ago. Perfectly ex-boyfriend acceptable, I thought.
7) You might notice I am wearing my Minnesota necklace. I've not worn it since Erick and I broke up, but I love it, and my presentation today was partly about Minnesota, so I had to wear it.
 8) I'm sick.
9) I am the biggest baby when I'm sick.
 10) I'm gonna go back to sleep now. I promise a better post later in the week, by which point I hope to have slept this bloody cold off!!

Have a good evening!
