Priorities

Priorities cause problems. They are the things that determine what you do and don't do, what you have time for and what you don't. In this world, unfortunately, we are governed by time. Short term time, like what you do today or right now, and long term time, what your goals are for the future and how you aim to achieve them.
Priorities work like this too. Sometimes we have to assess what is important right now, and how that will impact on our future.
Sometimes it means putting the boring stuff before the fun stuff- writing an essay instead of going out with your friends, or sometimes having a night-in and a relax when you're burnt out and resisting the urge to work.
I've always been a good girl. Even my mum said I'm far too much of a goody-goody. I love to have fun and hang out with my friends, but I'm very focussed, and I'm very good at prioritising- most of the time at least.
I know where I want to be in 5 years, and sometimes I need that to drive me forward. Of course, it's not always easy and I do procrastinate a lot at times, but I know that I have to do what I have to do to get to where I want to be.
I love my degree, but it's not always easy. At the moment I'm working for that as well as writing seven articles a fortnight for different publications and keeping up to date with this blog. Sometimes I wish I could just drop out and concentrate on my writing, but the fact is I do love the learn. Which is why I know I could start applying for jobs when I graduate, but I want to do a master's.
Part of the reason I'm telling you all of this is because I hate to give up on things I've been working towards. I hate letting people, and myself, down.
I've decided after some deliberation, I am not going to keep up with the 30 outfits for 30 days challenge I set myself. One reason is because I simply don't have time, another is that it's a lot of pressure and finally, I hate taking photos inside and I feel they look awful on my blog and let the standard of photography that I usually have down. I will definitely still be posting outfits, but probably about twice or three times a week as usual. Also, with the snow here I will probably want to rewear outfits just for warmth.
I may try this challenge again in the future, we shall see. I don't want my blog to become something I have to do, I want it to stay something I enjoy doing.
Similarly, at the moment I'm keeping up with my 52 Books challenge, but if that starts to impinge on my work and my studying, it will have to wait too.
I'm pretty sure this affects me more than it does you and I'd be very egotistical to expect that you feel let down by this decision, but still, I wanted to explain my reasons.
I have an update planned for later, so don't worry, this blog will not be abandoned.

  1. Don't worry Charlotte, I think you have enough on your plate without doing a 30 day challenge as well! You should be out enjoying your year in America rather than doing so much that you're bogged down all the time. The challenge can wait, but you need to focus on your degree and on your life abroad right now. :)
