Remix Item of the Month

Some new items slide effortlessly into your wardrobe, making you wonder how you ever lived without them. They complete every outfit, matching everything and tying everything together. Other items, well, they're more of a challenge. Sometimes you can't pinpoint it- an unusual colour, a strange shape, a different pattern. Some things just don't fit in quite as well. Maybe they just go perfectly with one item in your wardrobe and that's the way you always wear them, or maybe they looked great on the mannequin. Some things just take more effort, and despite your good intentions, they end up left, forlorn and unremixed.

I have this problem all the time. I have grand ideas for items that never materialise. I stick to what I know and pieces I love and that are easy to remix- how many times have you seen my floral Modcloth dress, orange skirt or lace dress? But I have a continuous list of items that I am yet to really remix. And I need a kick up the bum.

So, I have a new feature on my blog- Remix Item of the Month. Each month I chose one tricky item from my wardrobe, and during that month I have to create three different remixes of the item. And you guys can help!! When I post my item, you can help me out by giving me ideas of how to remix it. You can even chose an item you've seen on my blog myself that you'd like to see remixed more.

I'm going to try to ensure my items are seasonal so they get plenty of wear during the month. I decided that 3 remixes is about enough- I usually try to come up with three outfit ideas before buying something.

As it's September, and I always think of September as a month of renewal, I thought I'd start it this month. So, this month's item is this polka dot skirt (worn yesterday).

I bought this skirt from Goodwill in April or May and thought "ooh!! Polka dots!!" and imagined I'd wear it all the time. Yesterday was the first time I've worn it-I even had to take the label out before putting it on. I don't know what it is that makes it difficult to style- maybe the just-above-the-knee length, unusual shape, polka dots or colour, but I've never found myself reaching for it.

EDIT: It's a navy blue colour and the spots are white, sorry I forgot to mention that!!

So, I've done one outfit with this skirt. Any ideas for two more before the end of the month?

  1. I think it would look cute with your coral tank top with your navy blue blazer. :] You could wear it over any solid color dress you have, since it's long enough, and belt it.

I really like this idea! I'm excited to see what you do!
