30 for 30 Items

Yes, I am back in the UK and yes, I am very, very upset about it. I wrote some stuff at the airport that will probably go up in the next few days and I'm sure I'll be feeling very philosophical and reflective soon, so look forward to something over-emotional in the next few days.
For today, however, I present my 30 for 30 items!! I promised I would do the next 30 for 30 (the last one was in March, and over my Birthday, plus we also had insanely changeable weather in Minnesota over that time), and while I doubt I will for 30 consecutive days (I'm away Wednesday- Friday this week so won't be able to post for a couple of days), I will definitely be posted a total of 30 outfits. I am really excited about this challenge, but think it will definitely be that- a challenge!!
So, on with my items!! These photos are kinda awful, and you can't see everything, so anything that has appeared on my blog before I've linked to where how it's been worn previously- I'm nice like that :]]

Tops and shirts (10)

(l-r)
nude tank- Topshop
blue top- Topshop
denim shirt- H&M
lace top- Select
floral top- New Look

I read Kendi's guide to 30 for 30 before compiling my list and while I took her advice on neutrals, colours and patterns into account, I didn't have them in mind when compiling my list. However, I still managed to get a good mix of patterns, colours and neutrals. When I originally planned to do 30 for 30, I imagined I would include a lot more dresses and fewer separates, but I think I can definitely remix separates much more easier, without having to add additional items. I seem to have a kind of orange/pink/nude theme throughout a lot of my pieces, so I included a lot of neutral denim and black to balance this.

Shorts/Skirts/Bottoms etc. (9)

nude skirt- Topshop
leapard pencil skirt- vintage
denim cut-offs- New Look
orange skirt- Urban Outfitters
denim shorts- Miss Selfridge
black shorts- Topshop
floral shorts- Topshop

Choosing bottoms was fun. I had a lot of options but I figured these were most versatile. I was surprised at the end that I hadn't included any floral skirts, and I included a lot more pairs of shorts than I expected, but  feel that I have a good mix of neutrals (denim shorts, black shorts, nude skirt, cut off jeans) and playful pieces.

Jackets (4)

navy blazer- thrifted
denim jacket- New Look
striped cardigan- stolen from Mum

I complied my original list while I was still in the States and the weather wasn't quite as warm as I would have liked, or expected!! I exchanged a pair of shoes for another jacket. I know coats are allowed in the 30 for 30, but I felt like using jackets outside of the 30 was cheating. I will probably be wearing my navy trench as a coat if I need to though.

Dresses (2)

floral dress- Modcloth

Yep- just two dresses!! It's no secret on this blog that I love dresses, so it was really strange when I kept finding myself cutting the number of dresses down lower and lower to make room for more separates. I realised that when remixing, it's difficult to include dresses. Of course, I can wear them as tops or skirts by layering, but I didn't include many items I could do this with. Including only 4 jackets made it difficult too, as I usually remix a dress by changing the jacket or cardigan.

Shoes (5)

beige brogues- New Look
brown platforms- Blowfish
black ballet flats- H&M
brown ballet flats- Wet Seal

The number of shoes I chose to include also depleted rapidly in favour of other things, and I'm a little worried I don't have enough variety, but I do have enough neutral and plain shoes to at least go with everything, even if they are a little boring.

So those are my 30 items!! I'm very excited to start the challenge and I have lots of ideas for outfits. This is going to be a lot of fun and definitely a challenge. I wish I could do them all on consecutive days, but I'll probably still wear items from the list and just photograph them later. I'm hoping this will really teach me to appreciate all the items I have in my wardrobe and wear them in different ways. I'm hoping to try to avoid combinations I've worn previously on my blog, but I might have to resort to them if I get desperate!!

Let me know what you think of my picks and wish me luck!!
30 for 30 starts tomorrow!!

  11. This is such a great idea and one I would like to take up. It's great how many new looks you can make out of your existing wardrobe and I love the idea of the capsule wardrobe, creating loads of looks from it.
